A long-time member of Fall River Historical Society, Betty M. Welch is one of our staunchest supporters, both financially and by attendance at events. She has been the treasurer of the Society since 1993 and serves on our Finance Committee, which she was instrumental in forming.
Betty has been a resident of Fall River most of her life and was executive vice president and business manager of Truesdale Clinic, Inc. for thirty-four years, until she retired in 1999; she was also junior accountant for Albert G. Pierce, Accountant, for many years. The first woman appointed to Fall River Trust Group’s board of directors, she has served on the boards of Fall River Chamber of Commerce, Bank of Boston, NA, United Way of Fall River, Pierce Foundation, Inc., and Greater Fall River Art Association, and on the board of incorporators of Fall River Savings Bank and Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Additional examples of Betty’s community service include Home for the Aged People in Fall River (board of directors and incorporators, trustee, and vice president); Fall River Country Club (Executive Board); Bristol Community College Foundation (director and president); and Durfee Bells Preservation Society, (director and treasurer). She has also served as clerk of corporation, president, and treasurer of Bristol County Association of Insurance Women and as president and treasurer of Altrusa International of Fall River. She has received numerous awards including Woman of Achievement Award from Fall River Business and Professional Women, B.M.C. Durfee High School Distinguished Alumni Award, and Bristol Community College Board of Trustees Distinguished Citizen Award.
