Over the Moon
This whimsical trade card depicts three cats playing various instruments as a cow jumps over a smiling, anthropomorphic moon; it is printed against a pewter metallic background. Titled “The Cow Jumps Over the Moon”, the trade card represents the classic nursery rhyme of “Hey Diddle Diddle.”
One of a set of prints depicting nursery rhymes, the card was printed by Ketterlinus Printing House of Philadelphia, a lithographic and letter press printing house founded by John Louis Ketterlinus in 1852.
This card was then customized for L.D. Wilbur & Co., Clothier of Fall River. The “clothing and gents’ furnishings” store began by Leander D. Wilbur and was in operation from 1878 to 1888.
