Miniature Portrait
A tiny tot for Tiny Tuesday!
This darling miniature portrait is of Caroline Slade Brayton (1869-1956). The portrait is watercolor on cream glass with a gilt and light pink velvet frame. Though the artist is unidentified, the portrait dates to 1871.
Miss Caroline Slade Brayton was the eldest of Hezekiah Anthony Brayton (1832-1908) and Caroline Elizabeth [Slade] Brayton’s (1837-1928) 10 children! Caroline was a well-known socialite who was active in clubs, philanthropic affairs, and who served on numerous boards for charitable organizations in Fall River. Though unmarried, Caroline lived an exciting life; she traveled extensively and was highly educated. Miss Brayton resided at her family’s North Main Street residence until her death in 1956.
