An Update on Yearbooks

Sometimes, one simply need ask.

In a recent post on the subject of yearbooks in the FRHS library, I mentioned that whereas the run of volumes from B.M.C. Durfee High School is nearly complete – sans ten editions – the collection from Fall River’s many parochial schools is far from comprehensive, exhibiting several gaps.

In many cases, more gaps than volumes, actually.

Well, thanks to a response from a Westport, Massachusetts, resident who read my blog posting via Facebook, the collection of yearbooks from Monsignor Prevost High School, aptly titled The Prevost, is four volumes more complete.

The yearbooks span the years 1959 to 1962 – the donor’s late husband was a student during those years – and are in fine condition, with decorative embossed bindings and heaps of photographs of “the men of Prevost.” Very useful to researchers and library patrons.

In addition, there was also a single volume of Alpha, published by Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute, formerly Bradford Durfee Technical Institute – dating to 1965, it is the only volume from that school represented in the FRHS collection.

The donor was pleased to donate the volumes to the society, stating: “I would hate to see them end up in a dumpster.”

As would I.

No doubt there are many other Fall River yearbooks out there, languishing on shelves, in attics, or basements … the garage, perhaps?

But in this case, at least, one Westport home is decluttered of five volumes, fears of a dumpster are unwarranted – and the FRHS is the welcome recipient.

Any other interested parties?

An Update on Yearbooks Addendum:

Just this morning, as this was about to be posted, one of the FRHS’s volunteer docents donated a 1943 edition of the Durfee Record – a volume previously not included in the collection.

Very good, that.

Now we are down to nine – 1913; 1914; 1920; 1941; 1951; 1952; 1953; 1954; and 1976.

Can anyone help?
