A picture-perfect Tiny Tuesday!

A stunning piece of jewelry, this brooch features a watercolor miniature portrait on ivory, with a twisted frame of 14 karat gold! The lovely portrait is of Martha Jeannette Dwelly (1887-1983), painted in 1899 when Martha was 12 years old; the brooch originally belonged to Mrs. Frank Henry Dwelly [Mary Anna Henry] (1856-19040), Martha’s mother.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, portrait miniature jewelry was a fashionable addition to anyone’s wardrobe, these miniatures allowed you to carry around a likeness of your loved one! Martha would go on to marry Andrew Hunter Gardner (1880-1947).
