Seabury’s Medicated Toilet Soap
In the museum world, you’ll never know what you may find in the bottom of a satchel!
Today’s Tiny Tuesday artifact is Seabury’s Medicated Toilet Soap, circa 1880s. The key ingredient was a chemical known as Hydronaphthol, which acted as a strong antiseptic agent. According to The Druggists’ Journal of 1887, the soap was meant to cleanse “slight wounds, cuts, chapped hands and other mild skin diseases.” The original, unused soap still maintains a light, pleasant fragrance!
