Likely Cantonese, the checkers and matching shakers (not pictured) date to approximately 1840 and can be used for a game of checkers or backgammon.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In 1862, the set was given as a wedding gift to Horatio (1834-1916) and Hannah Maria [Cole] Carpenter (1839-1919).
