
Gold Industrial Medal
Tiny Tuesday gets the gold!
This gold industrial medal was awarded to Fall River’s American Linen Company in 1855 for their production of linen goods. The medal was given by the Maryland Institute for the Promotion of the Mechanic Arts, which was founded in 1826.
The Institute, now known as the Maryland Institute College of Art, is one of the oldest art colleges in the country. Exhibitions and awards centered around aspects of American manufacturing, hence the medal for linen goods. The medal is part of the Historical Society’s extensive collection pertaining to textile manufacturing.
