Doorknob
Knock, knock! Who’s there? It’s Tiny Tuesday!
These decorative bronze doorknobs were manufactured in Boston during the late 1860s, and are original to the house! The matching keyhole cover, also known as an escutcheon, protects the keyhole from dust and the surrounding wood from any accidental gouge marks.
Though perhaps overlooked by some, these doorknobs highlight the Victorian aesthetic, where even the most mundane object could be transformed into a work of art. The next time you take a tour through the Historical Society, keep an eye out for these special architectural details!
