Service Bell
Ring the bell for Tiny Tuesday!
Cleverly hidden behind the window casing and heavy drapery lies an original service bell! This bell is installed in our library and still works to this day!
When the Historical Society was a private residence, the home boasted numerous service bells to summon servants. Much like the speaking tubes featured before, service bells were commonly connected to a bell system within the staff areas. The original multi-tone bell system is located on a wall near the maids’ bedrooms and also in the kitchen service area.
The service bell is yet another architectural detail a visitor can find during a guided tour of the museum!
