Stuck in the Middle

The Estes building, erected circa 1908 by J. Edmund Estes (1867-1935) – treasurer of the Estes Mills – is commonly referred to in Fall River as the “Flat Iron” building. Located at the junction of Second Street and Plymouth Avenue, this building housed shops on the first floor and was residential on the second and third floors.

The image came out of the “Boudreau collection,” of photographs that were donated to the FRHS by the family. Unfortunately, the photograph is undated.

Established in 1913, Boudreau photography studio remained in business until c.1950 when it last appeared in the city directory. The business was owned and operated by Henry and his sisters, Alice and Mary.

Notice the mixture of transportation available in the city at the time this photo was taken. Horse and buggy, motorized vehicles, and trolley tracks are all visible in this one shot.
