A. McWhirr\u2019s department store. Betty Prescott and Suzie Mills Shaw have wrapped up the first phase of the project, having recorded interviews with several individuals connected to the management of the store \u2014 interviews include family members descended from the three original \u201ccash boys\u201d who owned and operated the establishment for decades. Fascinating narrative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They have ferreted out some interesting artifacts as well, including a volume of Stockholders Reports dating from 1949-1974, a volume of stockholder\u2019s certificates covering\u00a01893-1974, and\u00a0 a journal of minutes of Directors\u2019 Meetings, 1960-1970 \u2014 the minutes provide an inside look at store operations store in the final decades of its history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The interviews have been transcribed by FRHS volunteer Nancy Teasdale \u2014 a very time consuming process and more appreciated than I can say.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Next up:<\/strong> Interviews with former employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The eldest thus far: a 90 year-old woman who worked in gloves and hosiery during her college years \u2014 her mother worked at McWhirr\u2019s as well; and a gentleman of equal age who worked there in various capacities in the late 1940s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Marc Munroe Dion\u2019s article about the project in the <em>Fall River Herald News\u00a0<\/em>last week resulted in great feedback and we have heard from several former employees \u2014 one as far away as Seattle. All are very enthusiastic and are willing to be interviewed.
